San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

About 15 of us met up in San Miguel de Allende to celebrate our friend Amy’s 50th birthday. We had the best time exploring the cobble stoned streets and all the gorgeous rooftop restaurants.

While most of the group stayed in an incredible vacation rental, I decided I wanted to see what the hotels had to offer and ended up staying in a different hotel every night. I chose the Casa de Sierra Nevada, a Belmond Hotel, for my first night. It did not disappoint - I booked with my travel agent (before I became one) and got an amazing upgrade upon check in.

I was greeted with a margarita and the freshest chips & guacamole I’ve ever tasted while they were preparing my room.

Upon check-in, I was given a tour of my room which included a spiral staircase to a rooftop patio. Wow, I was already regretting the fact that I only booked one night here. My room was small, but had a fireplace, and adorable bathroom with beautiful tile work and that amazing rooftop terrace. A preview into what I would learn is the highlight of San Miguel de Allende — the plentiful (and gorgeous) rooftop terraces.

Our nights were filled with large group dinners at restaurants around town, drinks on rooftops, lots of shopping, and strolls along the cobblestone streets. We were there celebrating Amy’s 50th birthday, and everyone was having a great time.

My next hotel was a boutique hotel chain, started in Tulum, La Valise. They just opened the San Miguel de Allende location and I think I might have been one of the first to stay in my room. I was pleasantly surprised to find they had upgraded me upon arrival, and both the property and my room were spectacular.

It was starting to get dark when I checked in…and oh so gorgeous at night.

The next morning (before check out), I invited all of the ladies over for coffee in my room, which was really more like an apartment. Someone had to see this before I checked out and checked into the next hotel…
